The California aground on Tory 28/06/1914
 

The Great Liner the California on route from New York, USA to Glasgow, Scotland went aground near Tory Island of the coast of Donegal on 28/06/1914. The passengers were all safely removed to the Cassandra which took them to Derry and Glasgow. The California was refloated in August by the salvage ship the Ranger and the tug the linnet. This was during the First World War 1914-1918 and the California was torpedoed forty miles off Fastnet on 7/02/1917 with the loss of  forty three lives.

The Creeslough Connection: On board the California on 28/06/1914 was Bridget Gillespie Terlin returning from Philadelphia USA with her wedding dress to marry Harry Denis Mc Fadden Killoughcarron. She was taken on a boat to Derry all the luggage followed later the wedding dress was on time.
