2007/5/24 - General Election

A General Election for the 30th Dail was held on a thursday this time around with 165 of the 166 seats  in 43 constituency's up for selection the Ceann Comhairle being returned automaticly. (Dublin having a total of 48 seats)

Donegal North East (3). Fine Gael Senator Joe McHugh was elected TD. fot the first time topping  the pole . Fianna Fail Dr. James McDaid and Nial Blaney holding their seats with Cecilia Keavney losing her seat .

Donegal South West (3). Fianna Fail Mary Coughlin and Pat (The Coop) Gallagher holding their seats. Fine Gael Dinnie McGlinley holding his seat.

Final Result : FF-78, FG-51, LAB-20, GP-6, SF-4, OTH-5, PD-2.

2004/6/11:The European; The County Council; The Referendum; 

  The Three Elections 

Dana Rosemary Scallon MEP;
is standing for re-election for a second term to the European Parlament, on her first election she topped the poll in Creeslough, Ballymore and Glassan.

Paddy Kelly;
is standing for re-election to the Donegal County Council where he has served since 1991. Paddy has served twice as Chairman of Donegal County Council and has being on many of the local committee's including the Agricultural Committee.

The Referendum on Irish Citizenship;
The constitutional right of every person born in the island of Ireland to be a citizen of Ireland is contained in Article 2 of the Constitution.
A 'Yes' Vote will remove that right from the constitution,
A 'No' Vote will retain that right in the constitution.

2004/5/1 - EUROPEAN UNION ENLARGEMENT. EU

On Saturday 1st May 2004 ten new countries joined the EU. Brining the total to twenty-five countries. An Taoiseach of Ireland Bertie Ahern is EU. President, so Dublin is hosting the party for the enlargement. All ten new countries are twinned with towns and cities all over the country. Letterkenny Co Donegal is twinned with Poland.

The ten new country’s are: Austria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia,  Hungary, Slovenia. The existing fifteen country’s are: Belgium, Denmark, France, Finland,  Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Malta,  Netherlands,  Portugal, Spain, Sweden and United Kingdom.

Not in the EU. Switzerland, Norway, Russia or the part of Russia which is land locked between Lithuania and Poland or the Turkish Cypriot controlled part of Cyprus.
