Nine Irish Convicts

In the Irish uprising of 1848.nine men were captured,tried and convivted of treason against Her Majesty Queen Victoria. All nine men were sentenced to death. The condemend  men were: (1)Charles Duffy, (2)Patrick Donahue, (3)Morris Lyene, (4)Michael Ireland, (5)Thomas McGee, (6)Terance McMamus, (7)Thomas Meagher, (8)Richard O'Gorman, (9)John Mitchell. Passionate protests from all over the world forced Queen Victoria to commute the death  sentences.The men were sent to Australia regarded ad an open prison at that time. 26 years later (1874) the Queen learned that: 
  1. Charles Duffy became Prime Minister of Australia now Sir Charles Duffy. 
  2. Patrick Donahue became Brigadier General in the United States Army. 
  3. Morris Lyene became an Attorney General in Australia. 
  4. Michael Ireland became an Attorney General in Australia after Lyene. 
  5. Thomas McGee became Minister of Agriculture in Canada. 
  6. Terance McManus became Brigadier General in the United States Army. 
  7. Thomas Meagher became elected Governor of Montana. 
  8. Richard O'Gorman became Governor- General of Newfoundland. 
  9. John Mitchell became a prominent New York politician and father of New York's famous mayor, John Purroy Mitchell.
