Muckish Mountain from Killoughcarron

Muckish Mountain is 2,197 feet high, and is the 2nd higest mountain in Donegal. The sand on Muckish is pure white and was quarried and exported from the pier in Ards for making glass.

The work on Muckish stated around the year 1942 and contuined to 1952, When in full flight there was ten lorries drawing Muckish sand down to Ards Pier where it was exported all over the world to make to make glass. This provided a lot of work for the local people as in those day there was minimum mechanised.
