Sarah Mc Caffrey. 2000 Donegal People of the Year Awards.

Sarah Mc Caffrey: Creeslough daughter of Jim  Mc Caffery and Gracie Mc Ginley in a family of four, Mary died young, Sarah Teacher, Brian Doctor, Micheal Postman after his father who also owned the Creeslough Hall.
Sarah born in Creeslough was educated at Drumnaraw Nationeal School , Loreto convent Letterkenny, and UCD where she took her teaching degree. She taught English plus other subjects (music,drama and Irish culture & history) at Loreto Convent Letterkenny until her early retirement in 1986.
She devoted hugh energy  to the promotion of the appreciation of culture and Irish history, both within her classes and amongst those children fortunate enough to associate with her in the various clubs in Creeslough area. She is involved in The Legion of Mary, Pioneer Association, Glor na Gael, Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann, Creeslough Drama Group and Feis, The Rosary Group and St. Michaels GAA Creeslough.

The ten people including Sarah McCaffrey Creeslough Teacher, are Damien Faulkner Moville Racing Driver, Eileen Oglesby Kincasslagh fishing Company, Frank Gallagher Ardra Bakery Owner, Plunkett O'Ferraigh Letterkenny, Theathre Professor, James Likely Plumbing Contractor, Maire O'Donnell Mountcharles Golfer, Jim Nallen Letterkenny Social Worker, Cathal O'Shearcaigh Gortahork  Poet, Bridie Lynch St. Johnston Athlete and Paddy Harte. TD. Got the Hall of Fame.

 
 

The Unveiling of the Exmouth Memorial Cairn on Islay Island
(of Scotland) on 23/6/2000

The Exmouth Memorial.

The Exmouth ship sailing from Derry to Quebec sunk off Islay in North-West Scotland 27/4/1847 all on board with the exception or three seamen perished. A crew of 11 includind the captan and 233 pasangers were on board, 108 bodys were recovered and buiried at a spot above Traigh Bhan bay half a mile south from the scene of the disaster.

The Passanger List show the names: O'Donnells,Gallaghers, McGettigans, McLaughlins, Currans, Brogans, McCrossans, Dixons, Wrights, McCreas, Pattersons, Henderson. from all over the north: Letterkenny, Kilmacrennan, Stranorlar, Strabane, Omagh, Castlederg, and Ballymoney and Derry.

Sarah Mc Caffey grandparents and two of their children from Invinestown, Co. Fermanagh preished on the Exmouth, The rest of the children James, John, Tom, and Rose had remained at home until such time as the parents would able sent for them.
